A Wimbledon Social Sanctuary 601 Queens Road

Located in the heart of Wimbledon, stationed above the aptly named Centre court Shopping Centre resides the area’s largest rooftop terrace bar: 601 Queen’s Road.

A stone’s throw from Wimbledon Station and a short drive from where the world-renowned tennis tournament takes place, 601 Queens Road is the perfect summer evening spot. Light floods the beautifully designed space, a tranquil open rooftop venue prettily adorned with white flowers and miniature orange trees.

The 360° design and floor to ceiling windows make for a sunlit bright and airy space with panoramic views of Wimbledon. The décor is grand but modern with semi-circle blue and white bar stools, perfectly complimenting the circular bar stationed in the centre of the room.

If you have a sweet tooth the banana and ricotta pancakes with coconut yoghurt are heavenly. They offer small and sharing plates that are perfect for couples, groups of friends or business brainstorming moments. The cocktail menu offers the classic cocktail or something memorable to put this bar on your list of favourites. Some hot picks on the menu Grilled Buttermilk Chicken Skewers with pickled Jalapeno; House Made Kimchi Fried Rice, poached egg, short grain brown rice, garden peas, carrot, courgette, spring onion and coriander, 25p donated to Honeypot Children’s Charity – a beautiful way to give back.

We were invited to try the latest cocktail collaboration between J&B Rare and Darwin and Wallace. The Raspberry Sour is a twist on a classic serve: The Raspberry Sour. A zesty, fruity cocktail underpinned by the smooth character of J&B Rare.

601 Queen’s Road was where this seasonal serve made its debut. Available from from 1st – 14th July, it proved the perfect partner for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

We had the pleasure of trying this cocktail to accompany our meal. The Raspberry Sour made for a great summer aperitif, delicious with a delicate texture, a quintessentially British mixture of soft red fruit and Scotch whisky.

J&B Rare is mixed with Somerset Pomona from the Somerset Brandy Company. Distilled on Burrow Hill farm by the Temperley family, the Somerset Pomona is full bodied with a robust apple and smooth butterscotch finish, complementing J&B Rare’s delicately balanced taste. Fresh raspberries and passion fruit are blended in to give bright notes, and the drink is topped with fresh lemonade and finished with aquafaba foam.

The Raspberry Sour is now available across all Darwin & Wallace locations.
